Instruments such as the saxophone and clarinet are from an extensive family called woodwind. They both branch from their use of a reed to direct air into the instrument.
Saxophone was invented in the mid-1800s by Adolphe Sax. Sax is used in various genres such as classical, marching band, jazz, contemporary, also rock and roll. This instrument is powerful but freeing with liberating movements of the musician.
Clarinet was modified into the instrument it is today from the instrument called chalumeau. This modification happened sometime after the 1690s. The clarinet that we know today can be heard in almost every genre of music like classical, chamber, jazz, rock and roll, and other modern genres.
